Second Street Water, Sanitary and Storm Project Update
Upgrades to Second Street’s water, sanitary and storm mains began in July, 2016. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen challenges, the completion date of this project has been delayed until March of 2017. In the meantime, the City will work with residents to ensure that disruptions are kept to a minimum.
Over the course of the project, the City of Duncan and Stone Pacific Contracting have been required to:
- Undertake additional geotechnical design required to address soil conditions under the roadway to ensure the pipes have a long service life;
- Continually monitor the newly installed water pipe to ensure delivery of the highest quality water; and,
- Fix deficiencies in construction that require additional time for the contractor, at no cost to the City.
The City has been working with Stone Pacific Contracting for resolutions that will ensure that our citizens will receive the best value for their dollar through installation of high quality infrastructure with a long service life.
In the next month the contractor will be working on remedying the deficiencies in construction. After that, concrete and pavement work will commence. However, it will not be possible to pour the concrete (sidewalks) or place the asphalt until the weather improves as both products require warmer and dryer conditions for finishing. As soon the conditions are favourable in the coming months, the concrete and asphalt work will be completed.
On behalf of the City of Duncan, we thank you for your patience. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us at 250-746-5321.
