Notice of Renewal – Business Improvement Areas
The City of Duncan Council proposes to adopt the following bylaws: Business Improvement ‘Fee Structure One’ Area Bylaw No. 3173, 2017 and Business Improvement ‘Fee Structure Two’ Area Bylaw No. 3174, 2017.
Unless more than one-half of the property owners in each area, representing more than one-half of the assessed value of the area, give notice in writing that they object, City Council may proceed to adopt these bylaws. These bylaws will authorize the City of Duncan to continue to charge the property owners in Business Improvement ‘Fee Structure One’ Area (formerly ‘Fringe’) and Business Improvement ‘Fee Structure Two’ Area (formerly ‘Core’) a levy on behalf of the Downtown Duncan Business Improvement Area Society for the purpose of conducting a five-year business promotion scheme. The business promotion scheme includes various programs and projects that improve and promote the downtown area, such as hosting events, marketing, beautification, and advocacy on behalf of the business community.
If you are an affected property owner and you oppose the proposed renewals, you must submit a signed petition in person to City Hall, 200 Craig Street, during the 30 day petition period, starting at 8:30 am on Thursday, September 28, 2017 and ending at 4:00 pm on Monday, October 30, 2017. Petition forms and copies of the Bylaws are available at City Hall between the hours of 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, except holidays, or for download:
