Nomination Period Now Open for Candidates in 2018 Municipal Election
The nomination period for candidates wishing to run in the 2018 Municipal Election opened yesterday, September 4, at 9 a.m. and will close at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 14.
Prospective candidates can pick up a Candidate Information Package, which includes the nomination documents, in person at City Hall, 200 Craig Street.
Completed nomination documents can be filed at City Hall during the nomination period. Only eligible candidates who have filed their papers by the close of nomination will be included on the ballot.
General Voting Day will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. All municipalities in BC will be holding municipal elections on the same day. Voters in Duncan will vote to elect:
1 Mayor
6 Councillors
7 School Trustees
In addition, voters in Duncan will be provided opportunity to vote in the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) region wide Assent Voting (Referenda). There will be two questions on the ballot:
- “Are you in favour of the Cowichan Valley Regional District adopting “CVRD Bylaw No. 4201 – Cowichan Housing Association Annual Financial Contribution Service Establishment Bylaw, 2018″ to provide regional programs and services related to affordable housing and homelessness prevention?”
- “Are you in favour of the Cowichan Valley Regional District adopting “CVRD Bylaw No. 4202 – Drinking Water and Watershed Protection Service Establishment Bylaw, 2018” to support regional programs related to drinking water and watershed protection?”
