Water Meter Project Update – November 20, 2019

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Water Meter Project Consultation process.

In response to the feedback received, the City made the following amendments to the proposed New Water Meter Rate for Customers inside the City Boundaries:

  • Reduced the 19mm Meter Service Charge from $36.49 to $19.84 tri-annually. This impacts 83% of accounts and is a reduction of $49.95/year;
  • Reduced the consumption charge from $0.815/cubic metre to $0.751/cubic metre. This reduces the cost of water for everyone; and
  • Added a $19.83/unit tri-annual charge to large multiple dwellings with 10 units or more. This impacts 3% of accounts.

Please visit our updated Water Meter Program web page which explains the changes and outlines the amended proposed rate.

This new proposed rate was presented to Council in the Waterworks Regulation Bylaw No. 3204, 2019 and the amended Fees & Charges Bylaw No. 3205, 2019 and moved through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd readings on November 18, 2019.  Adoption of the bylaws will be considered at the open Council meeting of December 16, 2019.  If approved, the amended Fees & Charges Bylaw No. 3205, 2019 will be effective January 1, 2020, and will apply to customers inside the City boundaries.
