Director of Corporate Services – Temporary (12 – 14 Month Maternity Leave Coverage) – Screening

Due to an upcoming 12-14-month maternity leave, the City of Duncan is seeking an experienced professional to join our senior management team as Director of Corporate Services, beginning in November 2020.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Director of Corporate Services is a member of the senior management team and plays a critical supporting role in City initiatives across all departments. This position is responsible for directing and coordinating activities related to the statutory requirements of corporate administration as set out in the Community Charter and the Local Government Act. Core duties of this position include:

  • Overseeing the Bylaw Enforcement department;
  • Preparing agendas and minutes for Council meetings;
  • Drafting reports for Council, public correspondence, bylaws, and policies; and
  • Ensuring Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy compliance.

The Director of Corporate Services also acts as the Chief Election Officer for elections and referendums.

Applicants should have a minimum of five years related Corporate Services experience in a local government setting, including experience at a leadership level, and completion of a Local Government Administration Certificate, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A degree in Public Administration or related field would be an asset. Applicants are required to have experience and competency writing bylaws and policies, managing administrative processes, and using tact and diplomacy working with elected officials, staff, and the public. Well-developed organizational, leadership, time management, computer, written communication, and interpersonal skills are also required.
