Manager of Building and Bylaw Services – Screening

The City has an exciting opportunity for a creative problem solver who has specific expertise in Building Inspection and Bylaw Enforcement.
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the Manager of Building and Bylaw Services is a key member of the management team and plays an important role in supporting initiatives across all departments.
This role requires a minimum of 8 years of experience in building inspection and a Level 3 Building Official certification, as well as bylaw enforcement and supervisory experience. A post-secondary education in a related discipline would be an asset. We are seeking a proactive, highly effective decision maker with superior verbal and written communication skills and exceptional conflict resolution skills. The successful applicant must have a successful track record of using technical expertise and problem-solving skills to find innovative solutions and work collaboratively with all interested parties to protect community interests. This role is instrumental in maintaining strong working relationships between the building inspection, planning, engineering, and bylaw enforcement functions of the City.
The Manager of Building and Bylaw Services will be working with a group of employees who will be expecting the Manager to be solution oriented, listen effectively, bring energy and enthusiasm to the position, while being sensitive and respectful of differing opinions. The Manager’s leadership style needs to nurture a positive and respectful workplace climate and empower the team while supporting their challenging roles.
