Notice of Property Use (Warming and Cooling Centre)

Notice is hereby given, that the District of North Cowichan and the City of Duncan, pursuant to Sections 24, 26 and 94 of the Community Charter, intend to dispose of land that is jointly owned and that is not being made available to the public for acquisition.

The licensed area is a portion of 2687 James Street (west end of the Cowichan Community Centre parking lot adjacent to University Way), legally described as [Lot 3, Plan VIP31554,  (PID 001-154-885)], as shown outlined in bold on the map, is proposed to be licensed to the Cowichan Housing Association to be used for the “A place to be” project, a semi-permanent daytime shelter to provide basic warming and cooling spaces for people experiencing homelessness, via a licence of occupation for a term of 6 months with the option to extend for an additional 6 months for the consideration of the sum of ten dollars ($10.00) to be paid to the District of North Cowichan and the City of Duncan.

The Councils will consider this proposed licence of occupation at their regular meetings on January 16, 2023 at 6:00 pm for the City of Duncan and on January 18, 2023 at 5:00 pm for the District of North Cowichan.
