ASSENT VOTING (REGIONAL REFERENDUM)

Qualified electors of the City of Duncan may vote on the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) Assent Voting (Regional Referendum) question related to Regional Recreation Funding Services, “CVRD Bylaw No. 4438 – Regional Recreation Funding Services Establishment Bylaw, 2022”, to establish a new funding model for regionally significant recreation facilities. GENERAL VOTING DAY

GENERAL VOTING DAY will be open to qualified electors of the City of Duncan on Saturday, October 15, 2022, between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm at the Duncan Fire Hall, 468 Duncan Street, Duncan, BC.

ADVANCE VOTING DAYS

ADVANCE VOTING OPPORTUNITIES will be open to qualified electors of the City of Duncan on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, and Tuesday, October 11, 2022, between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm at the Duncan Fire Hall, 468 Duncan Street, Duncan, BC.

SPECIAL VOTING OPPORTUNITIES

SPECIAL VOTING OPPORTUNITIES will be provided for qualified electors of the City of Duncan who are residents, patients, or employees at the following facilities: Wedgwood House, 256 Government Street; Duncan Manor, 280 First Street; Sunridge Place, 361 Bundock Avenue; Duncan Kiwanis Village, 355 Day Road; Sherwood House, 280 Government Street.

SPECIAL VOTING OPPORTUNITIES will be available for qualified electors of the City of Duncan who for medical reasons, or because of infirmity, cannot leave their residence to vote.  Such persons may request a City of Duncan voting official to attend their residence on Wednesday, October 12 and Thursday, October 13.  Requests to have Election Officials attend a residence must be received by the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Election Officer or designate, by calling 250-746-6126 no later than Friday, October 7, 2022, at 4:00 pm.

ELECTOR ELIGIBILITY & REGISTRATION DOCUMENTS

To register at the voting place, you must bring two pieces of identification that provide evidence of your identity and place of residence and make a declaration that you meet the requirements to be registered as set out below. One piece of identification must contain your signature. Picture identification is not necessary.

Non-resident property electors must also provide proof of property ownership (i.e., bill of sale or property tax notice) and, if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.

Types of acceptable identification include driver’s licence, BC Services Card, BC CareCard, social insurance number card, Citizenship Card, credit card or debit card, Owner’s Certificate of Insurance issued by ICBC, a utility bill (electricity, natural gas, water, phone, or cable services), or property tax notice.           

RESIDENT ELECTORS

You are eligible to vote as a resident elector if you meet the following requirements: 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election; a Canadian citizen; a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; a resident of the City of Duncan on the day of registration; and not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.

NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS

If you own property in the City of Duncan but live in another jurisdiction, you may be eligible to vote as a non-resident property elector if you meet the following requirements:  18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election; a Canadian citizen; a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; a registered owner of real property in the City of Duncan for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; not entitled to register as a resident elector; the only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.
