Call for Submissions: Call to Artists for Friendship Square – Hiiye’yutul’ Public Washroom Art
The City of Duncan is seeking an emerging artist or group of emerging artists and/or muralist(s) to complete a painted mural on the front of the new washroom building in Friendship Square – Hiiye’yutul’ located at the corner of Station Street and Craig Street (85 Station Street, Duncan BC V9L 1W3).

Artists may apply alone or as part of a team.
Deadline to submit a proposal is: September 29, 2025 at 3:00 p.m.
HOW TO APPLY
Step 1: Read the Call to Artists: Friendship Square – Hiiye’yutul’ Public Washroom Art
Step 2: Collect all the required supporting documents and email them to larissa@duncan.ca or submit in person to City Hall at 200 Craig Street, Duncan, BC, ATTENTION: Larissa Barry-Thibodeau
Please organize your email submission as follows:
Email subject: please include- the Call to Artists: Friendship Square – Hiiye’yutul’ Public Washroom Art in the subject of your email
Email body– please include your name and contact information
Email attachments
- Cover Letter: The artist(s) will provide a cover letter explaining how their proposal responds to the project theme, site context including adjacent art, highlighting any proposed accessibility elements.
- Design Sketch Template: The artist(s) will supply a preliminary design sketch for all four panels for this space using the template provided.
- Resume (Maximum TWO pages) – PDF file format. Artist and or artists teams can include a two-page resume for each member of the team
- Portfolio Images (Maximum of 5) – JPG file format Images of artworks created in the last three years (2022 or later). High resolution and each individual file must be under 4 MB in size. Please ensure your image files are titled correctly. Title your images in the following order (01_LASTNAME_firstname, 02_LASTNAME_firstname, up to 05_LASTNAME_firstname)
- References: The artist(s) will provide a list of up to three references for which they have created artwork for or have been supervised by (mentors, employers, professors, teachers, etc.)
- Schedule: The artist(s) will provide a proposed work schedule, including milestones and project completion dates. Ideally the project will be completed prior to the end of November 2025.

A confirmation response will be sent. Please ensure that images of previous are combined in one single PDF attachment- the maximum file size for the entire email submission is 25 MB.

Proposals and their envelopes should be clearly marked with the name and address of the
