Duncan Receives Award for Financial Reporting for 7th Year in a Row
Duncan, BC – The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the City of Duncan the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting. This is the 7th consecutive award presented to the City of Duncan for surpassing the requirements for generally accepted accounting principles and clearly communicating the City’s finances in the annual report.
The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting Program was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
“I am pleased to congratulate staff on producing award winning reports year after year,” said Mayor Michelle Staples. “I would like to recognize the dedication and excellence of the whole finance team.”
The award was presented to the City of Duncan for the 2017 Annual Financial Report. The report has been judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” designed to clearly communicate the City’s financial information.
