Notice of Development Variance Permit (DVP-2020-02) 371 Trans-Canada Highway
This notice is to advise that Council will consider a Development Permit with Variances respecting LOT 1, SECTION 17, RANGE 6, QUAMICHAN DISTRICT, PLAN EPP40679 located at 371 TRANS-CANADA HIGHWAY, Duncan, BC.
The City has received a Development Permit with Variances application from the Coronation Mall, for signage at the Burger King building at 371 Trans-Canada Highway, which lies within the Highway Commercial Sign District D under the City’s Sign Bylaw No. 3095, 2013.
A variance is requested that will allow for an increase to the maximum sign area of three fascia logo signs on the building located at the southwestern corner of the Coronation Avenue and the Trans-Canada Highway. The applicant will be replacing existing fascia signage, authorized under a Development Permit in 2014, with the proposed larger fascia signs.
The applicant is requesting the following variance to Section 10.4, Table VI in Sign Bylaw No. 3095, 2013:
- To vary the maximum logo size on a fascia sign from 1.0 m2 to 1.5 m2.

To vary the internal illumination from only the letters or symbols internally illuminated, with the remainder being substantially opaque material, to a white internally illuminated background backlighting the letters.
The proposed permit will be available for public review from Thursday, October 22nd, 2020 to Monday, November 2nd, 2020. For convenience, the proposed sign plan and sign designs are below. Any person who believes their interests may be affected by this proposed Development Permit with Variance may provide written comments by hand-delivery at City Hall or mail to Director of Corporate Services, City of Duncan, 200 Craig Street, Duncan, BC V9L 1W3 or email paige@duncan.ca until 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 28th, 2020, to ensure their inclusion in the public record. Written comments received after 4:00 p.m. on October 28th and before 5:00 p.m. on October 19th will be submitted for public record during the meeting.
