Appointment of Fire Chief Wray Watson
DUNCAN – The City of Duncan is pleased to announce the appointment of Wray Watson to the position of Fire Chief for the Duncan Fire Department.
In 2008, Wray was appointed to the position of 3rd Lieutenant for the Fire Department, in 2012 as Lieutenant, 2014 as Captain, in 2017 as Assistant Fire Chief, and in 2020, was appointed Deputy Chief.
Council presented Wray with a long Service Award for 30 years of dedicated service to the Fire Department in 2017.
Wray holds Certification in the Fire Service, Firefighter I-II, Fire Officer 1, Fire Service Instructor, Incident Safety Officer, Fire Service Evaluator, First Responder Instructor, and ICS 300. Wray was also Unit Chief for BC Ambulance from 2009-2020 and was a Dispatcher for eighteen Fire Departments in the valley.
Wray retired from the BC Ambulance Service as Unit Chief in 2020 but continues to work a few days a month as a Paramedic. Wray was the Umpire in Chief for many years for the Duncan Junior Baseball Association and continues to be involved as an Umpire for the Association. Currently, Wray is also the Secretary of the Cowichan Valley Fire Chiefs’ Association (CVFCA) and a member of the CVFCA Honour Guard.
