Protected bike lanes coming to the City of Duncan
The City of Duncan is excited to break ground on Duncan’s first major east-west cycling corridor along Coronation Avenue, Ypres Street, and Queens Road to incorporate protected bike lanes.
Improvements for active transportation modes include the installation of new protected bike lanes along Coronation Avenue, Ypres Street, and Queens Road between the Trans Canada Highway and Duncan Street. This project aligns with Duncan’s Transportation and Mobility Strategy and reflects the City’s commitment to providing safer, more accessible streets and sustainable transportation options for our community.
“The City of Duncan already has many cycling-friendly features including mostly flat terrain and a default vehicle speed limit of 30 km/hr,” said Mayor Michelle Staples. “Incorporating protected bike lanes in key transportation corridors like Coronation Avenue, takes us one step further to ensure cycling becomes part of healthy transportation choices for people and the environment while reducing the demand for vehicle parking downtown.”
The City is grateful for grant funding received from the BC Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants Program and the federal Community Works Fund covering a major portion of project costs.
The Coronation Avenue Bike Lanes Project reflects a significant investment in active transportation, road safety, and sustainability for the City of Duncan. More information is available on Small Town. Big Conversations. at bigconversations.duncan.ca/coronation-avenue-bike-lanes.
