Council Update – November 4, 2024

The City of Duncan Council Update is a snapshot of items considered at meetings of Council. These are not the official minutes. Meeting agendas, minutes, and videos can be accessed through the City’s Council Meeting Portal.

• Council received the report of the Chief Administrative Officer that included updates on a number of City initiatives.
• Council made decisions regarding the annual and yearly ongoing grant in aid applications received for 2025.
• Council received an update on the Canada Avenue Complete Streets Project.
• Council approved amendments to the Operating Reserve Funds Policy and a new Capital Infrastructure Reserve Funds Policy.
• Council gave first three readings to Housing Agreement Bylaw No. 3252, 2024 for 257 Evans Street – a bylaw to authorize the City and the owner of 257 Evans Street to enter into a housing agreement for a 55+ assisted living residential facility.
• Council gave first three readings to Capital Infrastructure Reserve Fund Bylaw No. 3253, 2024 – a bylaw to establish a capital infrastructure reserve fund.
• Council approved a letter of support to be prepared for the Cowichan Public Art Gallery Society’s application for funding to enable the development of a Class C Plan for a new, purpose-built 35,000 sq.ft. gallery.

A Committee of the Whole meeting is scheduled for Friday, November 15, 2024 at noon to discuss the City’s 2025 Capital Budget.

The next Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 18, 2024, at 6:00 pm.
