Council Update – March 10, 2025

- G. Polard from the Downtown Duncan Business Improvement Area Society presented on the Façade Improvement Grant Program.
- V. Daether presented the Cowichan Green Community Year in Review.
- J. Horn from the Municipality of North Cowichan presented the Safer Community Plan: What We Heard Report.
- Council received the report of the Chief Administrative Officer that includes updates on a number of City initiatives.
- Council supported the appointment of Councillor McKinlay, with Councillor Bruce as alternate, to the North Cowichan-Duncan Sports Wall of Fame Committee, and repealed the Perpetual Trophy for Excellence and Sportsmanship Policy since this award program overlaps with the Sports Wall of Fame Program.
- Council amended the Development Permit for 725 Canada Avenue to replace the requirement for a green roof with alternate plantings as approved by City staff.
- Council approved a Communication Plan in support of the spring roll out of Automated Curbside Collection Service.
- Council directed staff to proceed with the purchase of 500 – 240L automated solid waste collection carts from the City of Nanaimo, with the remainder to be purchased from Superior – IPL. Automated curbside collection service is anticipated to begin this spring.
- Council adopted Servicing Officers Bylaw No. 3255, 2025, a bylaw to designate servicing officers for the City of Duncan.
