Every Child Matters March

September 30, 2021

National Truth & Reconciliation Day – September 30

On September 30th, the M’akola Housing Society will be hosting an Every Child Matters March.

It is recommended participants carpool, as event organizers expect to have a large turnout of participants.  Parking is available in the fields behind Vancouver Island University (2011 University Way, North Cowichan).

Southbound traffic, exit off the Trans-Canada Highway right into the Cowichan Rec. Centre (big hockey stick) parking lot, and park in the fields.
Northbound traffic from Trans-Canada turn left on James Street, and enter right through the Cowichan Rec. Centre parking lot (big hockey stick) and park in the fields.

Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at Vancouver Island University.

The March start line is at Vancouver Island University/University Roundabout.  Children will line up first, then Elders, and then public to follow.  First Aid will be along the route, and a City of Duncan fire vehicle will follow the March.  The March will end at Cowichan Tribes, Si’em Lelum soccer fields on River Road, with post-events planned.

Traffic control will be along the route to safely guide pedestrians and vehicles; detour routes will be in place.  It is requested that all vehicles parked on the street route be removed by 8:00 a.m.  If your vehicle is parked on the street, you may be towed to a nearby street or blocked in by the march for short time.  For safety, no vehicles are permitted to move within the march of people.
